The coalfield consists of an oval shaped basin structure of Tertiary sediments approximately 5.5 km long by 4 km wide. There are two coal seams, the main seam and the lower seam. Only the main seam, of thickness 15m to 34m, has been considered for open pit mining at this time. The coal outcrops along the western flank of the basin and dips at 28 to 45 degrees into the basin. Surface topography dips in the same direction as the coal at about 3 degrees. |
